The new M.H. deYoung Museum

The new M.H. de Young Museum, in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park, is an amazing architectural structure with a main building and a dramatic 144-foot twisting tower, designed by Swiss architects Herzog &  de Meuron. The museum inlcude courtyards, roof-to-basement terrariums, modern exterior and interior designs, and an extensive and large collection of art and sculptures.  The de Young museum is modern architecture built with a state-of-the-art construction techniques.  The building design alone is awe inspiring.  It is a wonderful cultural experience to view the exhibits and to study and appreciate the architecure and landscaping.  Form and function are demonstrated at their best. The use of natural light and sky lights enhance the fine art collections, fabulous exhibits and expansive terrariums.

The floor-to-ceiling glass walled Observation Floor of the tower at the
de Young Museum is a great place to view the California Academy of Scences with the Living Roof, other parts of Golden Gate Park, and city views.

A part of the roof of the de Young Museum shows open areas that allow sun light for the terrariums.  The skylights allow natural light

The landscaping in front of the California Academy of Sciences include beautiful palm trees, eucalyptus trees, and California native plants.

It is an incredible experience to stand on the Observation Floor and look out to see other parts of Golden Park and the city of San Francisco.  In the above picture photographed by Joe Fletcher, you can see the expansive views through the glass walls.

            The sunlit  terrarium showcases eucalyptus trees.
